Author Guidelines

  • Scope & Focus
    BJSMMS publishes original articles, systematic reviews, clinical trials, observational studies, case reports, narrative reviews, letters to the editor and invited editorials in sports medicine, exercise science, sports physiotherapy, sports nutrition, physical education, biomechanics, sport psychology and public health ​.

  • Article Types & Lengths

    • Original Articles: up to 5 000 words

    • Systematic Reviews (PRISMA): up to 6 000 words

    • Narrative Reviews: up to 4 000 words

    • Case Reports: up to 2 500 words

    • Clinical Trials (CONSORT): up to 5 000 words

    • Letters to the Editor: up to 1 000 words

    • Editorials (invited): up to 1 500 words ​.

  • Manuscript Structure

    • Language: Portuguese, English or Spanish (final English version recommended).

    • Title: ≤ 20 words, clear and concise.

    • Structured Abstract: Introduction; Objective; Methods; Results; Conclusion (max. 300 words).

    • Keywords: 3–6 DeCS/MeSH terms.

    • Main Text: organized per study type.

    • References: Vancouver style, numbered; include DOI if available.

    • Tables & Figures: submitted as separate files with clear legends.

    • Optional Sections: Acknowledgments; Conflict of Interest; Funding; Author Contributions (CRediT). ​.

  • Format & Submission

    • Accepted Formats: Word (.doc or .docx); no PDFs.

    • Submission System: OJS platform.

    • Citation Style: Vancouver—sequential numbers in text, full list at end ​.

  • Bibliographic Standards

    Ensure pre-submission similarity checks and full compliance with these guidelines. Non-conforming manuscripts may be desk-rejected.

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

    Under Brazil’s LGPD (Law No. 13,709/2018) and the EU’s GDPR, you have rights to:
